is this setup as a room divider?  or is there a wall right behind the tank???

If so, you might want to paint the back so you dont have to worry too much about algae on the back glass...

and it is funny watching kylej talking with kyle...

im going to get confused easily!!!1

Yep its a 20g I've been planning on moving to my 55gallon for about 6 months now and ill probably procrastinate for another 6 months or so.

The tank is just up against a wall. I was thinking about blacking it out but i dont really mind cleaning it every once in a while.

Nice tank, Is that a Xenia on the opposite side of the treasure chest?
Any fish?
I'm sooo nosey, it hurts!!!  ::)
I have blacked out the back of my tank, it still gets algae on it, in fact, I feel it enhances the colours in the algae, until I clean it off -that is when my snails can't be bothered to do their job!!-  :-[

Hi Kyle,
Ignore the'any fish?' question on my previous posting, just saw your thread about your firefish.
Sorry,
Tania.

the black should make all the colors in the tank 'pop', or stand out better.

And maybe if the snails arent doing thier jobs, you should get more.  (couple at a time)...

The algae that grows on my back wall is the short, fuzzy type...  looks like velvet, and pretty much cant be seen unless standing right up to the tank and starting at it...

and then what you see is snail trails...

it is pretty easy to 'black out' the back.  although it is easier prior to putting water into it...  (unless you can get access to the back side easily)

Use RUSTOLEUM flat black paint.  it comes in a small 1/2 pint container... it is oil based, but it is easy to put on and dries VERY fast.

use a cheap, disposable roller, (weenie roller)..   and a plastic or disposable tray.   No need to mask off stuff.  it is okay to paint the trim.  in fact it probably looks better.  just roll and jam the roller into the groove of the glass and plastic trim, then roll the trim to get rid of drips or paint build up.

If paint gets on the sides, just let it dry, then when dry, use a razor to scrap it off...

It takes me about 1-2 minutes to apply a coat, then about 15-20 minutes for drying, then apply another coat...

While waiting for the paint to dry, wrap the roller in plastic wrap, or the plastic that the roller came in to keep the air out and to keep the roller from drying...

total cost should be about $10 max

Also i never pointed out the treasure chest..... i really don't like anything artificial in tanks. However, my little cousin who became complete fascinated with my tank got it for me and i couldn't not put it in there and break his heart.
