My damsel has been eating and i figured that the other one would come out in a couple days. i really think that i lost him and something atehim. i do still hope that he will reappear at feeding time sometime in the next few days. My tank is stablizing thank god. anyone have any ideas? i dont want to disturb him if he is hiding though i havent moved the other half of the castle to see if he is in it cause if he is i really dont want to disturb. though the other one is out and playing and everything. i dont get it.lol

well its good that he was found. I have been trying to google this and even used ask.com but not really getting anywhere so thought i would post it here and see what info i can get. what all secretes a mucus in a marine aquarium? i know of wrasses when they sleep and of Vermetid gastropod but i cant find the worm and the wrasse is no longer there yet i keep finding this substance in the tank. mostly i find it on lurch, my urchin, but i think he is just running into it.

I am not sure I understand the question...basically everything secretes a mucous layer in marine tanks....fish, worms, clams, corals, echinoderms, what-have-you, they all can secrete a mucous.

It could be your urchin spawning...they tend to do it any time you disturb them, i.e. touch them, add top-off water/waterchanges, fish pestering them.
There is something fishy going on here...

when you yank the fish out, put them in methylene blue in the QT.  it can soothe burned gills (we use it for SH).

Bill and anyone that can chime in. i run my tank with two trickle filters so that there is enough current and water circulation. recently(today) i cleaned one of the pumps. i pulled an appie from where the motor draws in the water and now it wont seal water tight. it drips. anyone know a fix or repair that will buy me some time until i can switch over to a sump based system.(when i can get the money to get the rest of the parts)

vaseline is safe for your tank, and your body... generally speaking, if you can digest it or pass it thru, then it would 'ok', but not necessarly good for your tank.

if you want, you can get some silicone grease from a harware store, as that is the better/more appropriate stuff to use

but vaseline is a good second choice
