Recent pics of the 75!
« on: December 18, 2009, 10:28:14 PM »
Hey guys, thoughtd id post a few recent pics of the 75 gallon, i believe its been a lil over 4 months and running now, on top of the 3 months or so with the 29 gallon i mixed with this. they are camera phone so prolly wont be the best....you can also compare the pics to the first setup pics in the build thread, and you can tell the difference between my new light bulbs as well!

These are with the actinics on and maybe a month or so old...before i changed quite a few things around and replaced some stuff with some good frag trades..

These are newer with the new light bulbs..

Oh and i know some people were interested, so heres a pic of what the mesh top turned out like..

I cant wait to take some pics in another 3-4 months and compare..its just incredible how much coraline algae has started to spread around this tank already. its all over my overflow box, the powerheads, and slowly starting to scatter in lil spots on the back of the tank..

What bulbs did you end up going with?

i went with a fiji purple, 2 aquablue specials, and a another blue something...i cant remeber the name. maybe blue plus?  basically replaced 1 daylight with another so im running actinic so running 5 actinics..its nice having the 8 bulb system to change things up and around. as soon as i find more live rock, im going to change up the middle peice and right side of the overflow box. i want more peices of live rock and more craters and holes/tunnels..Prolly another 30lbs of live rock or so and ill be good.

colour looks good. the fiji purple really makes reds and yellows have a lot more pop.. the aquablue specials are daylight plus actinic so they give things a bit more pop as well.. Before in the photos it looked too tidy-bowl blue, the updated photos the colour looks more even and natural-ish..

yea thats the actinics i think..they are super super blue..kinda weird, cuz it seems when just the actinics are on some things dont glow as much as they should..

there are two types of "actinic" bulbs, true actinics which have a wavelength right around 420nm and blue actinics which have some actinic phosphors but peak in the 460nm range.

if your actinics aren't "true" 03 actinics, which look purple, you'll need to swap them out.  the "blues" are pretty much just blue lamps.  as Jake mentioned, you need to check the wavelength of the lamps to see where they peak.

..., you'll need to swap them out.  ....

The word NEED is not really a NEED  it might be a want..

color selection is a preference... some colors tend to pop more for other colors then for some colors...

It is up to you and to the specific colors and corals that you have...
