live rock is actually bigger then regular rock... live rock is way pourus... very easy to break, and cut...

lots of 'holes an spaced' inside the rock...

i dont believe in pounds per gallon...

I suggest getting as much as you can handle... then if it is too much, then later on, you can take a piece out at a time...

Cool. I just picked up a 2 strip "Aqua Light T5 with 10,000K and true actinic 03" bulbs. Is this good? should I get another one just like it so I have 4 tubes total?

wow, i didnt know they made them low wattage.. the lowest i had heard of was 24W

and that is low..

i would keep an eye out for more powerful T5, or get as many of these as possible...

I might also suggest a 70W-150  Metal halide...

they make a few options for you... JBJ, makes a fixture called a VIPER... it looks cool, and mounts easily and will blow away that T5

again, I am sure you can find some corals that will do ok, but the majority, wont...

so, up to what you want to keep and what you are wiling to lose while trying/experiemnting

Yeah, I did some thinking and decided If I'm gonna do this right I should stop skimping on the lights and get some nice metal halides.

Don't buy NO (normal output) T5s!!! I am always tempted to buy those aqualight 20" fixtures to throw on little 10 gallon experiments, and then I remind myself that they are pretty much worthless. You didn't mention a price, but if I recall correctly, they would cost me $28 and change wholesale.

Here is the thing about light...you can't have too much of it. Seriously. You simply can't come close to approximating the strength of sunlight.

Light is no place to skimp. Spend the money now and get a 150w Metal Halide. Try craigslist and you can probably find it for $100. It will save you the trouble of buying one later. Everyone does.

Basically, with corals, increasing difficulty of care involves increasing light (until you get to the most difficult-to-care-for corals which are ahermatypic, meaning they lack zoanthellae and so need to be fed). When you find out you can keep easy corals, you are going to want to keep harder one, and so on... Instead of upgrading the light three times to reach the MH, why not just start with it?
There is something fishy going on here...

I agree.
The only problems I see with that are that the metal halides are practically as big as the 20 :)

I might want to consider getting a larger tank... Thoughts?
