how big was your tank agin? that sounds rite...drain off as much water and fish into another container ...clean tupperware...with heater and maybe bubbler until u ready to put back into tank....thats what i did with mine when i was transferring from the 30 to the 125. if you have live rock you will probly need to also put in container and cover with water. if u dont have enuf from the tank you are moving you can mix up some salt water. take some from the present tank , mix it in.  anyone can correct my comments if im wrong please. :o

yea, just get a rubber maid container, and drain as much of your tank into it, and then drop the tank onto the floor or something, move the stand, put the tank back up, then put the fish and stuff back into the tank

the less rock and sand you move the better

the more sand and rock you move the more you will disturb the detritus and pssibl have some ammonia issues...

size is important, for smaller tanks you can probably move it wityhout having to drain too much

NO MORE FISH TANKS FOR BILLY BOY!!!!

I move a ton of tanks for work. Anything 50G or smaller should be a one man job.

-Drain half the water into something (those big rubbermaid trashcans with wheels are the easiest).
-Move the fish and corals into the trashcan or whatever you are using and then drain the rest of the water from the tank. I like to dig a hole in the sand an siphon the water level below the sand level so that it doesn't slosh around. There isn't a need to heat or aerate the water unless you take forever to finish.
-Take out your rock and put it in a bucket or something...no need to submerge it if you are working fast (anything less than 3 or 4 hours). I usually splash water over the buckets of rock every half hour or so just to keep everything nice and moist.
-Move the tank and stand together with only the sand in it. Get a buddy to help and it will be easy as pie.
-Once you have the tank where you want it, add the rock back in, pump some of the water back in, move the livestock back in and then finish topping off the tank. You probably will want to do a water change in conjunction with the move since it is already halfway there.

That is my system, and I have never lost a single fish or coral on a move, though I have had some damage from being careless and letting corals sting each other while being transported. When you start talking larger tank size, that is when you run into the hard work...when things take eight hours, you need to maintain your livestock with heaters and airstones and whatnot and it is a hell of a job.

There is something fishy going on here...
