well, I am one to go off other reefers, especially when i am directly involved in the situation, but i still like your story/rant... it's weak inthe rant category so I will stick with story.. hehehehe
if you have another bucket, you can put 1 gallon of water in it, then mix both buckets together to get back to where you were before you called the lfs...
and for the record, you can not go by 'how many cups' of salt per gallon of water recipe
that is why some salts weight 30 lbs per bucket and some weigh 40 lbs
You need to get the recipe for that specific brand...
And then i dont trust the recipes, for a bunch of different reasons, all of whihc suggest using those recipes as a guide by using about 90% and then adjust from there...
after you mix a few dozen barrels you can start to measure the real number of cups per gallon of water, and stick with it, but when you cnge salt mixes you will have to measure all over again
on my saltwater mixing station/barrel I have marked the outside of the barrel in gradients and marekd the realvent salinity for that volume of water, (using REEFCYSTALS) and for me, 50 gallons of RO was 26cups which as you can see is a just a skosh more then 1/2 cup per gallon of water... actually real close...
so, did you figure out what your salt level was ato 1.010???
Im guessing cause you didnt circulate the water overnight and teh salt settled in teh bucket
You might want to test that water for calcium and alk, (before you add it to your tank), might as well measure the calcium and alk of your tank prior to adding teh new salt water, then about an hour after water change go ahead and test your display tank water too
and see if you increased anything
