You want an overview picture of my boring tank..You got it!

Its only a FOWLR set up, I don't plan on getting corals until I advance more into SW. Thankfully I have my non reef safe starfish to keep me grounded.

thank looks good...

You might want to look for a differnt light or at least a different color... typically more 'blue' bulbsgive a more realisitc color of the deep sea...

also, it looks like you are either getting ready for a diatom bloom or just getting over one...

ONLY a FOWLR???!!!   ::)

FO setups can be both challenging and can look super.  ATM, i don't keep a reef (altho i've had a couple), but i have 13 FOWLR setups running.  you can do a lot with aquascaping and fish selection.  in fact, you have much greater latitude when you don't have to worry about a fish being "reef safe" or "reef limiting".

we now return you to our regularly scheduled thread...   ;D

yes, agreed... fowlr  is a much more easier setup when it comes to picking and choosing tank mates and all that...

but, unless it has plants and stuff like greg has, then fsh only seems unnatural to me... and somewhat incomplete/work in progress type of thing

i concur...and you know exactly where i'm coming from.  i like our setups to look natural, and besides, one can always add a few polyps or shrooms to round out the tank without going for a true full-blown reef.  in fact, we'll be adding some zoas and shrooms to the 60 gal soon.

one of my big reasons for utilizing live macro is the boost it gives in water quality, and with the fish we keep, that makes a big difference.  also, it gives the tank some nice color and movement.

actually, Bill knows how i feel about having "technology" (such as PH's, heaters, skimmers, etc.) or anything fake showing in our DT's unless there's a darned good reason for it.  we take great pains to avoid them when designing a system (besides adding to the water volume, this is what sumps are for).  yes, in this respect, i'm a bit of a "tank nazi", but it's self-imposed, and i only push the issue with myself.

you'll learn that there are 1000 ways to accomplish most things in this hobby, and it's up to the aquarist to run with what works for them.

just to show you what's possible, here are 3 iterations of the same tank:

current version (still a WIP):

just trying to show that FO can be a great way to go...i'm super happy with the 60 ATM, but will be adding a few more EZ-care corals as well as some macro (there are a few sprigs in there now, but we'll see what i can get my hands on).

I don't think my starfish is reef compatible. So I'll either wait his lifetime or give him away. But I want to get into the hobby more until I add some corals.

I wasn't to happy with the 10lbs of live rock that I got it was dense and more packed. I went to a different store and bought 3 lbs of live rock and it takes up much more space. Will the color eventually match after the algae bloom and Coraline algae covers?

added a few pics of my puffs

yea, all the rock will eventually be the same/similar color...

And yes, less pourus rocks, lace rock, branch rock is better..

IT has more room for fish to swim in and out of and for coral placemnt...
