sheezus...with all the ich going around, we happened to notice that the volitans/frondosa both have a few spots, which we're hoping to treat by lowering the SG a bit (not hypo), dropping the temp a few degrees, and feeding the fish beta glucan and vitamins packed into silversides.

this AM, i woke up to go to work and heard the main return pump on that system growling.  i knew i had a problem when the carpet in front of the tank was damp.  it turns out that the damned 1/3 hp chiller decided to spring a leak and tinkle the sump onto the floor.  so now i'm sure that stressed the fish out a bit more.

somebody remind me why i'm in this hobby...maybe a SW fish screen saver is what i need instead of a house full of tanx...  :-\

what happened???

The chiller sprung a leak???

How did that happen?  where is it leaking?  Do you need help??

Typiclally the chiller can only leak in a couple spots... either at the point of hookup at the plumbing or at the heat exchanger...

those usually are sealed with epoxy and or really good elastomeric caulking...

anyways, let me know if you need a replacement chiller.. i have a small one i can lend you...

thanx for the offer, Bill, but i slapped one of my extra chillers on there as a stop gap measure.  it's too small, but better than nothing.

it is indeed the heat exchanger that's leaking, which may be more expensive/time consuming than getting a new chiller (for those of you who don't know, this is a 1/3 hp chiller, so it's biggish).

fortunately, SW doesn't mildew, so at least the carpet won't smell...

no kiddin...at least the 13 setups we maintain are in our house...no travel involved!  then again, we have 13 frickin tanx in the house!!!   :o
