You will need a kit that test for ammonia, nitrites, nitrates for when you tank is cycling you can buy them separate or you can buy them in a pack.  Then it depends on if you are going to have fish only tank or if you are going to have coral too.  If you are going to have coral you will want to have a test for phosphates, calcium, ph(you'll want ph for fish too I believe).  And the list can go on lol....
if at first you dont suceed, try try, oh hell, just shoot the some woof woof!!!!!!! -Bill

like stated below,  it really depends on what stage your tank is in, and also what you are going to keep...

If it is fish only, then you really dont need calcium/alkalinity/magnesium test kits

You will probably want nitrate test kit for sure...

If your tnak is newer, then nitrite, and ammonia...

If your tank is cycled already, you can probably get away with a 'stick on' ammonia test badge/indicator thingy

pH is usually not a problem, but to start off with, and to get 'comfortable' it is probably wise to have that tested also...

good luck

if the tank is cycling, i wouldn't even bother with pH, as the tank will bounce around at this stage.  however, pH is indeed important for ANY system, be it reef, mixed, or FO.

not sure what you mean by accessories, but if you mean the sculpture or castle, you may find out that it willnot help in the filtration of your tank, and will create areas and space that will collect algae and other negative things that willmake keeping your tank clean more difficult...

typically those types of decorations are for fresh water, although they can be used in saltwater tanks, its like i said, they dont help/aid in filtration like live rock does..

you will probably want to increase the amount of live rock to keep your tank balanced

a good bang for the buck general test kit that will have all the things you will initially need to test for would be the API Saltwater Master Test kit. I was going to recommend the Tetra basic test kit but it has some things you dont need like Low range PH and General hardness which are freshwater test kits and it lacks Nitrate. As said before once you get everything up and running and you want to start keeping corals then you want to start testing for things like Calcium, Magnesium, and Phosphate. If you plan on keeping corals in the long run then you can buy everything at once in nifty carrying case by getting the Sera Marin Test Kit which has tests for pH, KH (alkalinity), Ammonia, Nitrate, Nitrite, Calcium, Phosphate, Copper and Iron. The only thing that kit is missing is Magnesium which you can buy separate. Copper and Iron arent usually tested much in saltwater but its one of those things you can test every great once in a while or if things start coming up weird and you want to eliminate suspects.

Hey guys, the past couple days I started having problems with my skimmer. I read online that it could be clogged or needed new o-rings, and to also check the water level. SO, after the first cleaning it worked but only for a short time. I took it all out again and snapped it back together and nothing. The very top part of the skimmer does not stay attached now for some reason. I have the magnetic cleaner holding that together right now. I had powercycled it a couple times and for the past two days it has been running solid as far as I can see. Suggestions?
Also, now the water is not the temp it should be. I had powercycled the heater and messed with the dial like I did before and that worked before. So far it has not worked and this is a brand new heater. You think the problem could be with the power strip? I am kinda at the stop and scratch your head point.

Hey, what skimmer do you hve again???  and what isnt working?? the whole thing?  no water flow, or do you ahve water flow and no bubbles???

as for the heater and power strip??? try plugging the heater into a different socket on teh power strip??? if it does the same thing, i doubt is it the power strip... I wouldl twist that heater ontrol all the way from one side to the other a few times to make sure it moves freely..

I would also do that while it is plugged in to see where the heater turns on, and off...

see if it turns on and off within a small degree or two... or if the dial moves half way or what???

doesnt matter if it is brand new or not.. some heaters are just plain cheap, and even good ones have lemons sometimes...

The heater is brand new one of the immersible shatterproof ones. I've been turning the dial all the way to the right and left. I'll keep working on that. The skimmer well, I think I may have had it put together incorrectly after cleaning it. I say this because I moved it last night and now its working great!
I went and got some new inhabitants last night. The store was low on fish but its kinda far so I just got some anyways. Two of the Black clown fish I really neat black and white fish but I can't remember his name. A sea cucumber, a cool clear shrimp with a red stripe and a star  fish. I also got a back ground and another 10 lbs of live rock.
You can view my tank live at ustream.

I am super excited! This is really coming together. I am hoping to get just a few little tiny fish to add soon and I think I may be out of room for the fish population.
Come by and watch and tell me what you think!!!

TGIF!!

Hey Guys sorry if when you tried to log on it was offline. When I got home I saw "firefox has crashed would you like to send a report". We're back online now.
Today when I got up I couldn't find my banggai cardinal. Found him laying on his side hiding under some rock. I thought he was dead but one of the shrimps were messing with him and he didn't like that. Still he is laying on his side at the bottom and this doesn't look good. I've only had him for 2 days. The other fish and critters all look fine though??? I had to leave to go to work my bf is going to go get a net(yeah pretty stupid not to have one) He is going to check but I don't think his outcome will be a positive one. The whole time I had him he did seem to like to be alone and did not frolic like the others?
I'm going to call Aquatic Treasures when they open to see what they guys says and maybe I can get my money back cuz like I said its been only two days. I asked him at the time of purchase if I needed to do anything special and he said no.
I will post some pics of the inhabitants so you guys can get a better view.
Suggestions for the cardinal? I don't really know what I could do or even if it would matter at this point.
Thanks
