My friend at the lfs gave me this frag so I could see how it would do in my tank and so far so good!  He also gave me another frag of candy cane that has about 5 heads on it but some of them are splitting.

Where do you get your zoaid? Live aquaria doesn't sell them so I'm wondering how common they are?

zoaid???

that is the name of a website... zoa id     www.zoaid.com

it helps identify and name corals...

Naming corals was intended to make it easy to id corals, but it turned out to be something totally different.. it is a method to create profit... by way of coming up with CUTE / CATCHY names...

purple zoanthid does not command as much money as PURPLE DEATH zoathids

and you might want to move that sps frag to a spot up higher, more light and more flow...

Super glue gel it is, ill stop off at the store tonight and pick some up.   Im also having a problem with the new mh bulb that I bought, for some reason it only works sometimes but the old bulb I got when I bought the lights works everytime I found a problem with the wiring and fixed it hoping that was the problem and so I tried the new bulb and it worked! but then this morning I checked it and it didnt work so I put the old bulb back in for now but I might have to go through all the wiring to make sure its all good.  Also to make sure the new bulb is good I put it in the other socket with the other ballast and it works everytime.   Changing the socket and the ballast in my canopy might be a bigger hassel then to go through the wiring on the one that is already set up so Ill try that first....anywho thought id share.

gluing frags is kinda tricky, and you will get better over time/practice so make sure you get extra glu

You will want to dab the frag onto a paper towel to kinda dry it, then apply glue all over into a gob... then you will place it under water to the rock you want and kinda twist/smoosh the frag into place and hold it...

The glu doesnt really glue like it does when all things are dry.. but what will happen is the glu will get hard and kinda mold around the nooks and crevices of the rock and when the glu is dry enough it will hold...

you can get frag rocks, or plugs or discs or you can smash a rock into bits and use them.. that way you can glue the frag to the rock outside of the water, then you can just put the frag and disck/rock whatever back on top of the rock...  the larger frag rock/plug will help hold the frag in place...

as for the bulb and ballast issue...

you need to make sure the bulb you have matches the ballast you have...

some ballast are hqi, some arent...

they might have numbers/designation like m59 or something like that... (sorry, i never got that much into the ballast issues)

but the bulb will need to be compatible with whatever ballast you have... or it will not fire all the time...

some ballasts are referred to as magnetic, some are electronic, etc...

Thanks for the tips on gluing frags!  That will come in really handy.  Also thanks for the info on the mh's too.  Ill have to do some more research.  My new bulb fires up every time with my other ballast but not the one I have set up in the tank so I may just have to change the ballast which just means cut two wires and reconnect them to the other ballast(which wont be as hard as I thought).  But man I have to say even with an old bulb the mh makes such a difference!

Back after a monstrous computer failure, complete with sparks shooting out of it and whatnot...but now I am rocking the 3.2gig quad core...exciting.

Get that Acropora up out of the sand and into some rocking light and current! I would start it about midway up the tank (~10-12" from the light), and move it up as high as you can over the course of a few weeks.

You can also gob a bunch of superglue on a frag while out of water and then glue it to something underwater. As soon as you submerge the frag, the saltwater causes the outer layer of superglue to form a sort of shell around the outside with the inside still liquid. All you do is squish the frag down on the target rock and the superglue shell pops and the liquid squirts out and locks everything down as Bill described.
There is something fishy going on here...
