New clown..
« on: February 07, 2010, 03:13:03 AM »
So i had done all the reading about introducing a new clownfish of the same species with an exisiting established fish. I went out and got the smallest tomato clown i could find and added him to the tank. For the first 15 min he hid out in the upper corner, after the big established clown came and checked him out a few times he followed the big clown back to the nem. The big clown seemed not pleased at first, but the new guy was so little he managed to slip behind the nem and hide out for a while. When he finally popped out from behind the nem he was all in the middle of it and the other clown paid him no mind at all. So 8 hours later they are both sleeping in the nem. In hindsight i probably should have gotten a little larger of a juvi as my clown is pretty big, didnt realize how big till put the wee little guy in there. Pics to follow tomorrow afternoon when the lights are on.

Cheers.

Awesome! How cool the original clown seemed to "tolerate" the newbie so quickly.

Mine were introduced together and fought horribly for the first few weeks :(

Well, the clowns are getting along pretty good. I saw them grooming the rock behind the anemone the last week or so. Well, now i know why they were grooming it. I came back from finishing up Bill's brakes on his truck this morning and found a clutch of eggs laid on that spot where they had been grooming. The little guy is taking good care of stuff, constantly mouthing then eggs and fanning them. The first couple of clutches are usually a wash, so we'll see what happens..

yea, the first few clutches are usually much smaller that that one... wowsa

set your calendar...

10 days after laying, they hatch, and then another brood in 3-4 days after that

basically a 14 day / two week cycle

I told my wife that i was going to let the first few clutches goto fish food and she was like nooo.. I told her i didnt have the right kind of food for them and she told me that i had better get some. She said to give any of the little buggers that would manage to make it a fighting chance.. Must be the mother in her. That would all change when she saw all the extra poo poo i had to get to raise the fry and where it would collect.. next to the DT in the living room..

you can get rotifers over night or two day...

you can contact Tri/pga7602    and see his setup.. he was doing real well for a bit, but not sure how he is doing now...

maybe he gave up and has some stuff cheap???

but, basically two ten gallon tanks and a couple air pumps, and a metal coffee filter thing, some two liter bottles and you are good to go
