I wish I had a real camera and a macro lens. The refugium is cranking bigtime. The chaeto will be ready for a culling before the end of the week, and there is an insane amount of 'pods cruising in it. I am pretty happy with the results thus far.

Jake,

that has been my experience with macro...sometimes, you just can't keep it, and sometimes it goes nuts on you.  we have certain tanx that will grow anything and some that don't do so well, or only certain species grow.

which is like my being able to keep some/most corals, but there are a few select species that just wont want to live in my tank..

or is it that they would rather peel the flesh off thier skeleton rather then live in my house?!?!!?!?

speaking of which...that sweet acro I told Bill about RTNed on me. Que triste.

Let me know when you want to try again. I will be happy to supply you. I tossed a chunk into my 50g to see if it would take hold, but I think it is starved for light at the bottom. I have a sump, but then I need to get a light for it. My old one was so corroded from salt spray that when I tried to change the bulb, it just unscrewed the socket from the wiring. All sorts of safe...

Can I keep chaeto on 24h? I am doing it now and it is going nuts, but some stuff needs downtime.

Chaeto growth....can't tell so well in the crappy picture, but the new growth is really light green and the original ball is still visible as a deeper green. It went so long without me seeing anything scurrying in it, but now it has exploded with 'pods.

The empty unit. Note that too much of the chamber is filled with rubble, scoff, and then read below.

Empty unit on the tank. The plan all along was to move it behind that tangle of cords on the left, which I have since done. I just wanted to make sure if it exploded, it did it where it was easy to clean up.

My one piece of advice, which someday when I am feeling adventurous I will do myself, is to cut or break the inner tube that leads into the "reaction chamber". Rather than have it by 50/50 rubble and macro, you could have way more useful room. I don't mind having the extra cryptic habitat so much because of my bull-headed lack of maintenance on the tank, but it would probably be more efficiently used as macro-space.
