well, check and see if you have some acrylic rod and LMK.. :) Checked today with my in laws neighbor and the hood is 85% done so i wont have to build an intermediate thing to hold my current canopy. Stay tuned

Jake,

unless you're going to make some huge, heavy piece, you can probably just use rigid airline tubing as well...

Well, i finally got the canopy on saturday afternoon. Fits great, LIghts are on a board that has drawer sliders for easy access. I mounted two 120 mm PC fans that have thermistors built in so that when the temp in the canopy goes up the speed of the fans goes up. The good thing about these fans is they move twice the air my current 80mm ones do at least half the same noise level. Still have to finish sand a few spots and then piaint the dam thing.

Still have to figure out the wiring for the t5's and try to find a quieter 250W ballast because the dual 250 W i currently have buzzes like someone locked a vibrator in the case.

Well i finally moved the new "60" gallon in. The canopy needs one more sand/paint session then it should be all good. Since i didnt have the other canopy done i put the current one on top of the tank and you know what, for supplemental the 36" lights will work fine until i stumble on a 54W ballast for good deal.

Only thing i was worried about during the move ended up happening.. my BTA had its foot attached to two rocks. I tried massaging the foot loose to no avail. So i carefully held the two rocks together and removed the nem and rocks no problem. So i put the whole lot down in the rubbermaid holding bin and all was kosher. The rocks were all secure and braced from moving. Well somewhere down the line the pile shifted and the nems foot ened up getting torn a bit. I know its not a death sentence but im going to really have to keep an eye on it and make sure its on the mend.

Other than that everything went smooth. Ended up hauling the tank and stand into the house by myself, no big deal. I used the kids wagon to get the tank from the garage to the front door and then carefully got it inside. My wife wasn't too happy about the mess (and the smell once i drained the old tank). I ended up re-using my old sand after rinsing it with some old tank water a few times and then adding some dead sand that i had gotten and rinsed really good. I just kind of tossed everything in there for now, water temp was dropping and i didn't want my sps to get too pissed off. I'm going to make sure i keep the nem on its own rock this time. I just hope it doesn't go on walkabout. All the fish are finally out. Banggai cardinal was the first out and the Mandarin was the last. Right now I just have the return coming through an eductor for flow, seems to be making things move enough. I'll worry about positioning the power heads and the eductor once i get the rock work done.

i had an anemone get crushed and ripped apart, and ended up with five anemones.

I doubt your anem will suffer or succumb to whatever you did...  who knows you might end up with a few extras...

and not sure why you didnt call me.. i know i cant do much, but it doesnt sound like you needed much...  certainly you got it done but you could have had a problem or worse...

anyways, glad it worked out for you...

yeah, it went pretty smooth. We have one of those big wagons with the inflatable tires and removable rails so i just strapped it down and rolled it to the front door. Slid it off and up the steps and through the front door. Although the tank is glass it's not all that heavy, i honestly think my old tank weighed more.

yeah, if I had enough scrap acrylic laying about  i was just going to put a shelf together using two pieces of acrylic on each side to straddle the lip of the sump but alas i didnt. So i just cut some 1 1/4" PVC i had laying about and notched it to sit over the edge of the sump. Drilled and screwed a scrap piece of acrylic i had to the pipes and insta shelf.

looking at the sump picture...

on the far right are two hoses.. one is white striped in front of the black hose behind it...

the striped / flexible hose is the drain line.. it lets the water drain from the tank into the sump...

Inside teh sump is a pump, (hard to see), but it pumps water up to the tank... as it pumps water, the water will 'over flow' into a drain, and then back to the sump...

The white striped hose, goes from teh far right to the far left.. and it actually drains into a 'filter sock', bascially a bag of cloth that 'filters out the chunks'... (used instead of filter pads)

In the middle of the sump is a protein skimmer.. it has a blue tube/pipe that is used to control the water level inside the skimmer

On the far right of the sump, in front of the white striped hose, is a media reactor.. It is hanging on the sump.. (it is a HANG ON type of device)  it can be mounted in a sump.. or a tank...

On top of the sump, on teh acrylic sheet, is a dosing jug.. used for Calcium and ALK suppliments

hth

Yeah, she's a monster. My friend that I had gotten the tank from came over a few weeks ago. I was helping him with his car and while he was here he came in and checked things out. He was very surprised when he saw how big she had gotten.
