Extreme Measures!!!
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:03:30 PM »
Turned on lights this morning, and was absolutely horrified to see the Aippies had now attached themselves to some of my corals. :'(

They have infested the whole tank, lost count at around 100!!!

Guy at store said that they had probably 'sensed' the Aiptasia-X, and decided to planulate like crazy in an attempt to save themselves. ???

They had stung the life out of the Trumpet coral, the toadstool, Xenia and Jasmine Star too; as well as moving into them.

Took drastic action there and then.

All rock..removed!

Above mentioned corals...removed!!

Most of the sand/crushed coral....removed!!

Weird thing was, however, my fireshrimp was nowhere to be found; he must have died and been cleared away by the 10 bristle worms we found!!

Tank contents now: 2 Clowns, 1 yellow Goby, 1 Yellow Tail Damsel, 1 Firefish, couple of snails, brain coral, frag of Jasmine Star and Green Mushroom.

Will give it a couple of weeks to ensure there are no more of the swines in the system, and restart the aquascape.

All a bit murky at the moment, but will post pic's of my 'blank canvas' when it clears.

Gutted. :'(

Thanks for the sympathy.....

         Before.... ;D                                                                              After...... :'(

All parameters fine... 8)
Salinity: 1.026
Nitrate: Trace

Will take out the rest of the sand, clean tank, leave a week or two....just to make sure there are NONE of the swines left in there, then re-scape it.

Thinking of going for the minimal approach next.......new live sand, just a small amount of rock; new rock, I hasten to add.

The rock that has been removed will be 'cooked', and kept for future use.

Being positive now, all a learning curve, and the experience will prepare me for ........... a larger tank. ;)

didnt see your AFTER pic...

when uploading directly to this site, try to save or uplaod the pics in a smaller format... you only need 640x320, or even less...

the larger pics take forever to upload and for those that have slower connections it willtake while to see the message and pics...

as for help in picking out which air bubbler to stick in your tank??? im not so sure i would 'stick' it there...

Did that clownfish morph into a firefish?  :D
How big is that tank, I hope not too many organisms die on the LR.

Two clowns in there, at top of waterline when pic' was taken...unlike them to miss a photocall.. ;)

Sadly, ALL organisms on the LR will die, as I'm not going to re-use it for a verrrrry long time. :-\ It'll be base rock in the next one.. :)

Tank is 29 Gallon.
