hi all!
« on: February 22, 2010, 10:21:03 AM »
Hi all!

My name is Lee, and I'm from Corpus Christi, Tx.

A few months ago i more or less inherited (long story) a 180 gallon salt water aquarium from a friend of mine.  It had a canister filter, protein skimmer, custom hood with several kinds of lights attached, multiple powerheads, and a bunch of live rock.

Most everything survived the move (i've lost 2 fish since then....combination of no heater, and a petco fish bringing ick into the tank).  I have 3 blue damsels, a foxface, a dragon goby, a cardinal, a cleaner shrimp, and some little guy my friend caught at the beach!  As far as corals go, i have a flowerpot, a ton of asparagus coral (i think), a few featherdusters, a hammerhead, some mushroom polyps (i think), a mushroom coral (i think), a pulse coral, and either a frogspawn or a.....drawing a blank....long tentacle coral?

I did freshwater tanks for about 10 years and loved it, but had to leave the hobby when my family moved around a lot.  too big of a hassle.  i have never done salt water though.  my friend was supposed to give me a quick rundown of how to take care of everything, but he ended up leaving town before he could really tell me much.  i'm learning a lot from some books i bought, and research on the web.  But i stumbled upon this forum yesterday, and it looks like a great resource.  I have a few questions, and i'll check thru all the forums here.  hopefully they've all been answered already.  And thanks in advance for any advice I get from you guys!

welcome Lee!

my wife lived in Corpus for about 10 years or so before moving here (S. CA) to be with me.  She's originally from Newfoundland.

if you have any questions, just shout 'em out, and we'll see what we can do to help.

Thanks for the welcome!

I have some pictures saved on my computer at home.  I'll upload them after work!

So far marine fish keeping has been a fun experience....although awfully frustrating!

frustration is part of the game/hobby.. get used to it.. :)

things happen, and we try to either understand what is happening or rationally explain it, but most of the times we are still trying ot udnerstand why ...

thank you all!  :)

one quick question, if anyone can tell from the pic.  In the 3rd pic, to the lower right of the damsel, that green coral......can anyone identify it?  The picture in the marine invertibrate book i have makes me think its a mushroom anemone, but i can't find any pics to match it online.  I also thought it was a carpet coral, but again I can't find a good match anywhere to verify.
