does this apply to the strips that have the button on the side? is that the same as gfi plug/outlet in the wall?

And no, not sure what you are referring to as to 'buttons' on the side.

If it says gfi or gfci, and has two buttons, TEST and RESET

then it is probably the right thing...

I wouldnt plug the main pump into this btw....

there who is? me? im around...awww miss me huh? LOL...ok one strip has a button that switches on and off and one side does say reset..the other one has a button on the side of the strip in addition to the on off switch so that mite be the kick incase power goes out. who knows? im always around so if the darn thing kicks out ill fix it...hehehehe (mimicking bill)

and hey, i did a water change and caught my stupid pistol shrimp who decided he wanted to see the bafffles in the back of the tank...  dang that was a pita

oh yeh..i heard/read u had a missing clown..did it turn up by now or???? i find with all the scavengers in my tank if a fish dies i never see  it..they all get a freee meal...ugh. still got the stuff on the sand and the xenias are growing faster than ever..

the button on the side is most likely a circuit breaker which will trip if the strip is overloaded.  a GFI strip will definitely say that it is, and as Bill mentioned will have a "test" button on it which will trip the GFI when pressed.

It sounds like they are not. It sounds like they just have a surge protector.

You could take a picture of the strip to show the class.
