newbies at "Greg & Renee's House O' Scorps"
« on: March 08, 2010, 12:07:02 AM »
an exceptional specimen just happened to come our way, and even tho it's not quite as magnificent as the fish we recently lost, it's indeed a looker.  this one has polka dots on its superorbital appendages...pretty wild-looking.  this fish is about half the size of the previous specimen, so Renee gets to  "grow it up", which she loves to do.  it should color-up a bit more over the next week or so.

our new Rhinopias frondosa:

check out the superorbitals:

we also picked up another S. brasiliensis about a month ago...this one is about 1/3 the size of our red specimen, but is sporting some pretty nice coloration:

very nice.. cant wait to see how those come along. I would really like to get an angler of some sort but alas, my mandarin is slow moving enough to be dinner one day. Maybe one day when i have room i'll get a chance to set up a species tank and keep an angler or scorp.

Awww, congrat's on the new 'babies'.
Lovely looking fish, can't wait to see how they grow under the care of you both. :08:

Will the newbies be housed separately?

we had to play a bit of "musical fish", due to size as well as where fish are in terms of QT.

the new Rhinopias is alone for now, but will eventually be housed with the volitans and the other Rhino.

the new brasiliensis is bunking with the S. caribbaeus and a single H. barbouri SH..  the red brasiliensis is now chillin' with the Inimicus (sea goblin).  the red brasiliensis and the sea goblin will hopefully get large enuff to join the volitans and the Rhinos.

the caribbaeus will eventually live in the 60 gal, but needs to be a bit more solidly "on the stick", as that tank is a full of voracious feeders.

OK...now somebody explain all that to ME!  hehe

Almost sorry I asked...lol  :a102:
Must be as confusing for you and Renee as it is for the fish at times eh?
Another question now.... :c023: ...have you previously posted a pic' of the  caribbaeus ?

The main reason I think I'm drawn to your fish is because they appear sooo grumpy and ugly(no insult intended), you can't help but love them!!

The SH on the other hand, always appears (to me) to look very sad.

Beginning to think I'm losing it a litle now...fish ....expressions.....

Thanks for the pic's, as usual...brilliant.

S. caribbeaus:

it's roughly the same size as the little brasiliensis, but it will stay small whereas the brasiliensis will eventually be a 8"-10" fish, perfectly capable of eating a SH (it will obviously be moved before that).

i guess the hardest part is catching and moving venomous fish.  some are EZ, they just lay there in the net, but some don't dig it at ALL and get tangled.  somehow, i think if i ever get stung, it will likely be while trying to extricate a tangled fish from a net.

Beautiful!! Love the pictures....

thanx Amy.

the pic of the red brasiliensis and the sea goblin was just a snapshot.  the fish were too close to the "bowfront" corner, so there's a bit of distortion there, not to mention that this setup isn't really lit since the scorps don't care...
