New Project that was a "gift"
« on: March 22, 2010, 12:56:10 PM »

So I come home from a from a bachlorette party. BF says Hey I got you something.. Go look in the kitchen. walk in the kitchen. Eyes go wide. I said Oh another fish tank. Oh and it had fish in it already.  :104:

Like I didn't have enough going on with the saltwater tank already! This thing looks like total crap. The filter has been leaking for years I guess and so there is water damage. The fish I don't even know how they are still alive in this muck!

So here I am still hung over I start in on it. I just happen to have a 29 gallon sitting around. So, I clean that out real good. I scoop the water out of the tank into the other tank and then the fish. They have like just enough water. I see that they had a bubble wall. So, I hooked that up to circulate some air.

Fish as of this morning are all still alive. They apparently have not ever had a heater so I'm not sure if I should buy one or what.
Can you fix a leaky filter? This thing looks like its from the 60's or something. I will most likely have to buy a new one. Hey I thought a gift wasn't supposed to cost you time and money HAHAHA.

Gonna clean some more on the tank when I get home and then get some water going to sit and get ready.
Wish me luck

they look like Goldfisch which are just little mini carp. They can survive pretty much anything from dam near freezing to murky hot swampy stuff. Dont spoil them, let them be Goldfisch.

So much for adding water guess I should have been realistic. Realized it was midnight and I was to pooped to do anything else to it.

I dunno how many gallons it is. I dunno what exact kind of fish. He said one was a coy and the rest goldfish. I thought that this black and white one was the coy but he said it was the bigger orange one? Well, and the big orange fish always has looks like a string of waste hanging off of it? Freakin Gross!!!
These fish pics kinda suck

Koi = Big fancy Goldfisch. My sister had a wee little Goldfisch that she got from sunday school when she was in 3rd grade. She had that thing till it finally died in 2005. They kept putting it in larger and larger tanks and it got to be almost 6" long and turned onery. It would spit water at you if you walked by the tank.

to be honest, i'd say the B&W fish is the koi...that larger orange fish simply looks like a fantail GF.  unless you really want the fish, find somebody with a pond, which is the best place for them.  koi grow to over a foot long.

Yup, a testament to the putrid waters that carp can live in. Look at most koi ponds.. naasty. Hexes do make nice Seahorse tanks. . If you would decide to make it a SH tank Greg and Renee could give you all the tips in the world you want (and then some) on that matter. You could set it up, fill it with saltwater, throw a few chunks of dead or base rock in there and let the thing cycle for a few months. Once you got that in there and it established then you could decide what you REALLY wanted to put in there. As suggested before, save your pennies when you want to go impulse buy and wait till you have some money saved up and get something really nice/special.

Ya I'm not really that excited about the gf and koi. I know that if Charles comes over he's gonna wanna see his old fish though.
I like the Seahorse Idea. However, I wasn't really planning on doing another saltwater as this one kinda tapping me out. Well, at least right now anyways.
Oh yeah I also recently acquired two rescued cocatiels. That was not planned and is perty time consuming. One of them is very aggressive so I had to put him by himself. Put the other one in a cage with my original cocatiel. Not to mention the other three parakeets I have.
Wow kinda got off the fish subject but anyways.
Didn't do anything new to the tank but I have been adding water slowly to the fish in the tank they are in.
Hey what does anyone recommend for a filter for these bad boys? I do not want all that poop sitting around in the tank. I plan on getting a power head to help circulate and air ate. There already is a bubble wall. I saw some filter that you put in under the gravel to help keep things clean. What are thoughts on those?
Also as far as keeping the water from turning green. I know over feeding is a cause and that the declor only removes clorine. What is recommended drops, filter? There are just tons of stuff at the store and the people that work there well Id just rather ask you all  :00123103:
