Fingers Crossed......
« on: March 31, 2010, 09:38:45 AM »
My supplier rang me today, he is picking up some peppermint shrimps for me tomorrow...sooo excited  :0012396:

I hope to actually get them this time; currently 3 aippies on gravel, managed to vac' 4 out earlier today!!!

If they were a popular nem' I would make a killing eh?

Question I currently have no rock at all in the tank. Will this have any adverse effects on the pep's?- nowhere to hide and all that!!  :c017:

i can't remember if you have fish in the tank or not, but with no LR and no fish, you'll need to feed them a bit after the appies are gone.  you might want to drop a PVC T fitting or short length of pipe into the tank so they have someplace to hide.

No phone call!!!! rang him, not at the shop, apparently he was called to someone's tank emergency, so will probably be next week; after the Easter hol's.....talk about blocked at every turn eh?

Still have fish as Amy mentioned...two clowns, one yellow tailed damsel, dartfish and yellow goby. Also two coral.

I'll look into MARCO rock Bill, haven't heard of it before, but will research soon. Thanks.

I'll be able to provide the shrimp with food and shelter Greg, thanks for the tips.

Oh well, off to eat chocolate now.......lol

the marco rock is real cool.  great shapes but the best part is they are dry...  not live.. which is why i said something aboiut not being in a rush...

you can like 10 pounds and let it get seeded from the sand and existing system...

the other good thing about dry rock is that yoiu are not paying for shipping of water.. the dry rocks are lighter...

there shouldnt be any issues with customs or agriculture rules...

and did i say they look great...

Im thinking they will be at the upcoming show MAX

If you can find out if or how i can send it to you, I would be glad to pick some up and put it in a 'flat rate' box or something....

Thanks for the offer Bill, that is really good of you.
I have just finished trawling Ebay here, and have found 25kg for £49 inc postage.
Sounds like a bargain methinks. :0012395:

Was wondering though...the aippies.
If I place porous rock in the tank, I feel I am sort of giving them the chance to get a foothold again...paranioa I know, but I'm terrified of spending loads of money again, only to have to pull everything from the system.

Thought about maybe placing smooth stone..marble? granite? on a temporary basis of course.
I really don't want to go down the road of putting plastic into the tank, worried about it leeching into the system.

Once again, I'd appreciate opinions, Thanks.

Sadly I think the appies will grow on anything.  I had peps in my tank for two months they ate all the appies(that I could see anyways) and I noticed appies starting to come back within a few weeks after taking the pep out.  I placed one back in and so far so good.   I'm not too sure but I think to completely remove them from your system without the help of a pep shrimp would be to remove all the substrate and scrub everything in the tank(too extreme?).  Then add new substrate and rock which stinks because if you add live rock that has it then you are pretty much going to have the problem all over again.   I hope you can get a pep in your tank soon!
if at first you dont suceed, try try, oh hell, just shoot the some woof woof!!!!!!! -Bill

yea, i was hoping you can get ahead of the appies with all the old rock gone and some pepermnt shrimps and some manual removal...

It is a lot of effort but the only other choice is to empty the tank and get new sand and new rock...

maybe something to think about...

a bag of sand and some new rock, and a rubber maid..

keep things in the rubber maid for as long as you can stand it while the 'new tank' cycles...

you can use 'some' of the old sand to seed the new live sand...

you can use some old tank water in the new tank and mabye some of that 'super bac' stuff that Greg is pushing

I removed the fish took out the rock and sand, washed the tank out, and replaced the sand with gravel. I checked the two remaining coral, they appeared to be clear, and I then put the fish and water back in to the tank...all seemed good. That was a few weeks ago.

I noticed the aippies again AFTER I did all of that. I washed everything..the powerhead, the air tube that was inbuilt, the skimmer, everything!!

I'm going to start stalking my supplier tomorrow......lol..I WILL have the pep's, they seem to be the only option left open to me...what a drama queen eh?  :smiley_confused1:

BTW thanks for all input. X

at least you all can have peps in your tanx...in most of our setups, peps = snax.  :grin1:

in fact, i need to reach into the volitans tank and kill a few appies this weekend (i think there are about 3 or so).   :violent-smiley-007:
