One more piece of equipment : RKLITE
« on: April 09, 2010, 11:24:47 PM »
The same guy that was shutting down his nano tank sold me his RK lite for a song. Needs a new temp sensor, but other than that all is good. It may just need to be calibrated, im not sure..

want to go, yes.. can go, no. Im going to be spending all day sunday moving that 125 gallon tank so tomorrow i'm the family man.

I'm going to check things out on the probe end. The guy i got it from picked it up from tom. He said he and mailed RK and told them the probe wasnt working right, they said to send it in to them, he had just never gotten around to it.

Also, how much water does that wheeled blue container you have carry? We may need to borrow it for sunday. The guy has 35 gallons of newsalt water mixed up that we need to take with us.

on second thought, see how much you can find one for. If its 10-15 bucks then go for it. Its the base i-temp cable that comes with the rk-lite

Greg,

I talked with DA and I believe i can program your controller... maybe if Renee is up to it, I can come by and try again...

I would like to do it while it is still fresh in my memory???

800 dollar boat anchor.. ouch.. it better do a lot for 800 bucks..  My deal is turning out to be a headache as well. Temp probe turns out to be OK.. seems like there is something up with the head unit and the pc4 on the one i picked up. Tried to update the firmware on both but got errors on both attempts.

you may need to try and reset it, then reload the firmware.  i got errors at first to, but then it "took".

all i really want are RELIABLE basic controls (Renee likes all the bells & whistles):  temp, lights, top-off.

Jake,  I have an an extra 4DCHD  whatever it is

it's the 4 outlet Heavy duty... you can use it to trouble shoot...

and yea, I recall reading something about hard reset on the head unit  to get you back to ground zero...

And greg, i mean Renee like ALL the bells and whistles...She is like a dude that way... she has to have the latest toys... thier controller has all the add ons and net things and all that stuff...  and yea, i can make it anyday, just let me know..... i need a break, and maybe someone to talk to if you can ... io know things are goin on with renee and truley hope she is ok, but i would like to talk with you and her actuallyu as i want a girls point of view too...

well after a few emails back and forth they have come to the conclusion that the SID (programming and computer interface adapter) is no good. I've found a local guy that has and RKL and i'm going to try and use his SID to flash the firmware before i send it up to them. After arsing around with it for the last week I figured i'd hook it up to the pumps and power heads today and give it a try. Set it up to where everything but the main return pump would shut off when i set the controller to standby. Well, worked like a charm :) I put it in standby to feed and it shut off the two K3's and the skimmer while leaving the main return pump on. After the 30 min standby period was done all turned back on just like it should have.

While i was messing with things I figured wth, id plug the bum temp probe in and see if it managed to work. Sure enough, plugged it in and it was working. Albeit reading about 40 degrees too cold but still working. I attempted to calibrate it using the thermometer on the Hannah pH meter but it is still about .6 off even if i calibrate it to the temp that the Hanna reads.

Once all is working right I'm going to eventually get another PC4 controller and use it to control the lights, heater and chiller. I'm going to add another temp probe for redundancy which will mean i have to add on another module which will more than likely be the SL2 since you can add a pH probe and a salinity probe to that one as well. The SL1 is 10 bucks cheaper and uses Ph and ORP probes so hrmm..

not many go for the redundant temp probe.

usually you would have a heater or chiller that has built in temp controllers, so you end up with redunantdant temperature sensors...

you can set up the prpgramming to be safe defaults and safe OFFs in case of erroneous readings...

temperature safes are kinda easy and in teh event of temperature issues are kinda not as critical as pH issues..., although you can do the same thing withpH but pH issues are more critical/important without built in redundant things

(dang im tired)

not sure how much the extra control module is, but if it is more then a few bucks, i would pass or put the money into something else

can you setup other programs or are you stuck with just T"IMER programs

I was able to borrow the SID from that guy tonite and upgraded the FW on the head unit in like 5 min. I just need to get the cable from bill so i can upgrade the power module's firmware. So it was the what they thought it was in the end. Im still going to send in the temp probe and the SID to them as soon as i have the receipt in hand.
