one thing i forgot to mention is whenever you use formalin, make sure to keep the water VERY well oxygenated, as it tends to deplete the dissolved O2 levels.

sorry for being a lamer, Jake...

I did a ton of reading before i dipped the fish and one of the things always said was to keep the water aerated. I had an air stone in the container with her the whole time so no worries there.

we actually use formalin a fair amount in the SH world, mainly  to control ciliates in fry setups, so we're used to it, but sometimes one forgets...glad you researched it.

well, like i said in the other thead. She did good in hypo for 3 weeks and i was bringing up the salinity so i could put her back in the DT. Once the salinity got up to around 1.020 she had some more spots re-appear. At that point i got pissed and bleached everything, mixed up a fresh batch of hypo SW and then dosed the tank with rid-ich (formalin/malachite green) I dosed her twice daily per the instructions for the first two days then for 3 days once a day. I let her go a day or so and then checked her out, a few little spots here and there. So I've started the daily dosings again. Going to keep it up for a while, until i'm sure i've managed to get it this time, while keeping an eye on the fish and making sure she's not stressed and eating.

so i re-scaped got the tang all sorted and ich free and back in the DT and what does she do? 2 weeks later i catch her going around and nipping at most of my LPS pieces.. Acans, Lobo, Welso and Maze Brain. Softies and SPS she leaves alone. I watched her nip no fewer than 6 pieces last night in a span of 30 min. The welso that i had gotten from bill, had for a few months and then gave back to bill and finally got back from bill is all pissed off from the nipping. I have a feeling this is what was the problem in the first place.. Its not like the tang is starving, I feed my fish and corals very heavily, i have the nitrate issues to prove it :) . Alas, my patience has worn thin and especially after taking care of her for two months in a HT and all the water changes and what not that entailed.  That being said she will be moving on, Lanny has a nice spot for her in a 250 gallon FO tank where she can kick it with bills school of chromis and his PJ cardinals..

Now i just have to catch her.. Shouldnt be too hard, i'll get her in the crack she sleeps in at night..

I guess what it comes down to is do I like the fish or the corals more.. Short answer is I like the corals more since they are things that I have chosen to put into my tank. The tang came with the tank and while I didn't want to see her suffer and die with ich since that is cruel to the fish I've got no qualms sending her onto a bigger home where she can grow out and have more swimming room. While I do like Tangs I'm not sure what kind (or even if I will) replace her with.

Do all Blue Tangs do that or did you just get a little devil?

im going to go out on a limb, and suggest that almost all fish CAN go after corals...  they are oppertunistic feeders.. in other words if they are hungry they will try anything... and if they try something and decide they like it, then it will become a staple in thier diet...

precisely...i once recommended a foxface to someone who kept clams and had a lot of fancy zoas.  they took my advice, the the foxface destroyed the zoas by eating them.  i had never heard of a foxface doing anything like that.

Yup, pretty much. She got a taste and liked it.. now she knows it's a viable food source and goes at it with gusto.

Well I got her out with little fanfare after lights out. She always sleeps in the same crack and there are two ways in and out. I covered the back enterance with the net and started poking into the front entrance with the blunt end of a chopstick. She backed out into the net freaked, turned around and the. Tried to swim through it and failed. Popped her out into the nanocube that I had running from the clowns. Lanny needs to come and get her because she's pissed and not happy about being back in a qt like tank.  I'm just I didn't have to tear down the rockwork to get her out. That would have been a nightmare..
