Finished competition today. Glad to have that off my back. Here's my speech off the top of my head.
The Universe, infinitely vast, a place barely explored, the final frontier. The milky way galaxy itself is 100,000 light years, meaning it would take light 100,000 years to travel from one end of the galaxy to another. In comparison, the distance between Earth and the sun is only 8.3 light minutes. Most scientist do believe that aliens exist just based on how big the galaxy is. The Drake equation states that if aliens do exist, there would be 100,000 to 1,000,000 civilizations in the Milky Way itself.
A reason why we've yet to see aliens is just how big the universe is. If a civilization were to send a radio signal, it would need to hit Earth perfectly, just a few hundredth of a degree off can prevent a discover of a lifetime. If a signal is projected to hit Earth, it could tank tens of thousands of years to hit us. Another factor is we've only been looking for 40 years, that is just a flick of time to how long the galaxy has been around.
Some wonder whether or not we should even be looking, while there would be harmless micro-organism and primitive species, there would also be races more advanced than us. Some believe an encounter with these species could mean the end of human.
Most scientist do believe there is life out there, the question is just where are they? When will we find them? What do they look like. Everyday, we are discovering new stars, planets and galaxy and getting closer to the possibility of discovery life beyond the stars
