water turnover
« on: June 17, 2010, 08:19:37 PM »
according to my information water should cycle at least ten times in an hour. so how long can a fish survive with reduced water circulation in the system before it becomes harmful to a tank mate??? say something like 5x an h our???
welcome to the best saltwater forum ever......

should be fine, when I first got my tank I had maybe 3-4x circulation going on. Everything was happy for quite some time.. Fish it really isnt that big of a concern, its corals you have to worry about since they cant move. You can put a fish in a QT with a spoinge filter and an airstone and they will be fine with regular water changes..

i dont reccomend following flow rates, as it will not be liear comnpared to the tank size/volume

i.e. a smaller tank might have ten gallons, and at a hundred gallons per hour powerhead, you have ten x

but at hundred gallon tank, and trying to achieve ten x would ten thousand gallon per hour pumps... not going to happen

if you have water moving around the tank and can see corals or algae moving, or food blowing around the tank when you feed it then you are fine...

coral will want as much as possible without blowin the flesh off the skeleton

NO MORE FISH TANKS FOR BILLY BOY!!!!
