is ocean rider the place i went to???   i didnt see any sign or indication of that name???

and yes, they were totally full of themselves... they are teh greatest thing to happen to aquarium keeping.

but, they also said they really only deal with a few select species, and there wasnt much color to be had in the onese we saw... a slight golden color, and that was it.. 'cept for the leafy dragons...

but, when they said they walk customers thru the startup/cycle process, before they will ship the SH, and then their time frame for cycling was 6 weeks and all would be good, I knew they were full of it...

they are going thru the motions, and must have enough money built into thier prices to afford a few replacemnts here and there, not quite the goal of a breeder that toutes thier sustianability

the only thing i liked was that they make sure the SH are eating non live food prior to shipping...

Ocean Rider is pretty full of themselves to be honest.  They'll charge you premium prices for colored SH, and when they arrive not that color, they'll tell you that you're paying for the color gene...pffft.  Yes, this actually happened to an org member.

They'll also ban you from their forum if you disagree with them, and their big expert is Pete Giwonja, who has this annoying habit of quoting himself...he'll say something and follow it with (Giwonja <insert date>).  He's pretty full of himself IMHO.

Also, they really don't breed all of their SH species...they get them from other breeders, and their SH aren't the best quality, but should be for the prices they charge.

Don't have a lot of good to say about them really...I've had some of their SH, and I wasn't impressed at all, esp. when I had one necropsied and found she had no ovaries...

Man, that sucks about the drama with skeeter and hannah.. FWIW the cat bloody hates me. I walk in to the house to check on her and she comes from the bedroom and hisses at me, i re-fill her food and she hisses, more water - same deal. I figure the cat might like a little bit of petting since she's been there alone alot.. No bueno.. between pets, more hissing.. I had a cat bite me in the hand once and my hand got all gnarly infected. Had to goto the hospital outpatient 4 times in 24 hours to get antibiotics dripped so they didnt have to amputate my hand.  Less than 14 hours from bite to gnarly almost amputating my hand infection..  Needless to say hissing cats dont get much love from me..

sautee'd marlin tonight... seems fish prices have dropped to normal... fish is now between $5-$13 per pound...

I found some #1 sushimi grade tuna and other fish... and it was around $10-13 per pound... hmmm...

i wonder what sushimi grade would taste like if cooked???

not sure if it is the same, or if the fat content is less/more.

I know belly meat is going for top dollar still...

oh well... maybe next time i have fish i will go for it...

this AM, i am having rice and spam and fried egg, (over easy/medium)

spam is fried slightly, and a dash of soy sauce...

OMG....  coffee and spam and eggs and rice... and not a could in the sky, what more can i want, (oh yea, no sun burn...)

I am still burnt from yesterday.. i kinda thought i was past burning after the last couple weeks of exposure,, but i am burnt... and i used up a huge piece of fresh ALOE... god that feels great...

Bummer about the cat. Bet skeeter will be GLAD to see you return but give you the "silent treatment" for leaving...hehe.

Aloe is a life saver for burns that's forsure. Hope it heals up quickly.

Yeppers, they are indeed Ocean Rider.  And of COURSE the SH are eating frozen food...esp. if the SH in question are CB.  No reputable breeder would sell SH that aren't weaned to frozen.  They're also not super forthcoming with replacements/adjustments if anything goes south.  They've been around for years, and you'd think they'd have better customer service than they do.  Dan, Abbie, and the girls at SH Source beats the snot outta those folks, hands down (quality, before/after service, price, etc.).

Greg, where can I get fish necropsied? I searched and searched, but to no avail. I have a client that loves to tinkle away money...

We happen to have a friend whose day gig is clinical pathology, who also happens to be an avid aquarist (we know him thru "the org"), and an amateur musician/luthier as well.  He has done work for us (and others) in the past, and a LOT of what is known on the org in terms of pathology and treatment can be attributed to Marty's excellent work.  In fact, there's a whole forum with his necropsies on the org that's one of the incentives of becoming a "plus" member (unless you happen to be a moderator ;) ).

they were definately full of themselves.. the tour guide person, was all bubbly and all , about how they were teh only ones to do this.. and should we ever consider getting seahorses, that they are the only ones...

I pretty much stopped listening to the propaganda early on... and just enjoyed the setup...

seeing how they do constant water changes and just let the overflows run into the ground is awesom...

all the tanks are sitting on blocks and the drain lines are open to the crushed gravel/lava and there is no chance for standing water.. i am guessing the water table (salt water table), is about -10ft below

ok, i got the first 5 boxes of stuff... so there is plenty of stuff for those that want...

jake, i have a couple bags of dark unground beans...

and some cool chocolates and some jellies... the chocolates are kinda cool in that they are individual wrapped for the kids.. this way you can just open one candy at a time, and they wont know or want to eat a whole box..

boxes are for big kids with self control... RIGHT????

let me know when you are free, and we can meet up and grab lunch or whatever..

you can also take whatever other stuff you want from the patio / garage...

let me know

btw.. the coffees are kinda 'eclectic'.. that is they are from different farms in and around KONA.. each has thier own private label.. so you can really get down and dirty with tthe taste testing...
