same here, I cant stand raw tomatoes. The juicy jelly bit makes me want to vomit.. Cooked tomatoes are ok, I used to not be able to eat those either. As i've gotten older i can tolerate them a little better in stuff like spaghetti sauce and chili.

I LOVE tomatoes...I can take nice vine-ripened ones and eat them like an apple!

I have a perfect place at the new house for a couple of half whiskey barrels with tomato plants...

Lanny, that's a pretty one...what variety are you growing?

That is an "Early Girl", which everyone plants cause it is the quickest to fruit, 65 days from flower to fruit IIRC. It also has an INSANE yield. I have pulled maybe a dozen off and there are still thirty more on it and the damn thing is still flowering! My grandpa is big into tomatoes and he says Burpee's Early Girl is his favorite tomato. I also have a "Better Boy", a "Brandywine" heirloom, and a "Japanese Black Trifele" heirloom. The last one is some really crazy unique strain - shaped like a pear and has a black shoulder and a really unique taste - that I decided to try since I despise all other tomatoes. Hey - it's worth a try...

I HATE HATE HATE raw tomatoes but love tomato sauce and tomato soup, so I haven't eaten any of them, though the girl says they are awesome. She makes salads with a base of tomatoes instead of greens...it's disgusting. I nearly gag watching her prepare it. I planted them for her 'cause she is a big tomato fiend. For myself, I threw down a few different bell peppers and some jalepenos. Next year I am going to go big; full vegetable and herb garden - squashes, carrots, radishes, cucumbers, cilatro, basil, garlic, onions, everything I can fit. The thing holding me back this year was my back and my finances. I just couldn't muster the strength and energy and dollars to build my planter boxes and shade structures so I was limited to full sun and container crops.

Let that be a lesson to all of you - don't drive drunk or you might ruin someone's garden. :040:

My mom has some heirlooms, but to be honest, while pretty, they simply don't have the flavor of a better boy, early girl, etc.

When I owned my home in Venice, my back yard was a killer veggie garden in the summer, but was pretty bare in the winter (I don't care for winter squash).  We grew tomatoes, white corn (so good you could eat it raw), hot peppers (a really nice hybrid that was hot as hell), cauliflower, yellow squash, zucchini, bell peppers, carrots, radishes, etc.

There was nothing like going out to the garden and getting fresh veggies and herbs to cook with.

hmmm, conspicous lack of flat worms...

I decided to hit them where they feed. I hooked up a Phosban reactor and have been working on that aspect of it. Seems to be effective. Some of the nuisance algae is dying back, and the planaria are not proliferating as they once did. Hopefully I can put a lid on it once and for all.
