So I lost my favorite fish today..my McCoskers Wrasse.   MY FAULT!  I kept reading how you should have a cover over your tank and I never did put one on.  you think I would have learned since I lost two firefish due to jumping..  I think Im going to put a mesh covering on the back of the canopy instead of over the tank because if I built a cover for the tank id have to deal with my return and all that so I think by putting mesh on the back of the canopy that may be easier and still prevent any fish from jumping out.   Anyways looks like ill finally have to learn my lesson!!!  Now to find some mesh!

So I picked up some mesh fabric that i was just going to tack on the back of my canopy as tight as I could get it and then I got thinking what if my fish trys jumping out and gets stuck on the fabric?....hmmm.

they make some small stuff, 1/4" mesh iirc. I think its sold in  hardware stores as bird mesh.. If you fish gets stuck in that then there isnt anything you can do. I had bills red barred anthias after he let his tank go. Good fish, always out and personable. One day i was feeding, opened up the hood and there on the glass crossbrace in the center of the tank laid some salty anthais jerky.. Some times you can only do so much..

yea, he was a good fish.. for a jumper he really didnt jump.. his partner did, but he was fine in my open top tank... but, i am guessing he didnt see that brace.. heheheheh... did it look lke he tried to squirm to the water????

That sux...we've actually lost a few lions/scorps due to carpet surfing.  I actually warn folks about fuzzy dwarfs being jumpers.

didnt you loose a fondrosa to a surfing incident?

(i went back and read some old posts and it was ich that took down the fondrosa)

Dang that sucks Jake.  Im not sure what im going to do....some people have covers and fish still get out some how? ...I guess they are determined .

Actually, it was some kind of "hypo incident" (we're still not sure what happened), but yes, the crypto was the reason for the hypo treatment...i doubt a fish like that one will ever pass our way again.  It was truly an exceptional specimen.
